Hi there! We’re Ed and Erica Castner!
Ed, a culinary enthusiast with a knack for crafting simple yet gourmet meals and cocktails, has always found joy in experimenting with flavors in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Erica, the master of ambiance, excels in setting the mood with carefully curated playlists, decor, and enchanting scents.
Our “foodie” journey began when our marriage was falling apart. Like “falling-apart-within-the-first-six-months-of-our-marriage” kind of falling apart! Thankfully, we sought professional help to get our marriage back on track (that’s a story for another day).
In that process, we discovered a shared passion for cooking and dining together. This new routine not only brought us closer but also sparked creativity in our meals and strengthened our communication.
We’d take turns being head chef and sous chef. It was only a short time until we started to find clever ways to turn ordinary ingredients into not-so-ordinary meals. The whole experience started to give us “first-starting dating” vibes, which rekindled the spark in our marriage.
Then, we began posting a few of these dishes on social media, and the response was overwhelming. Friends and followers were captivated by the visual feast and eager to get the recipes. We soon found ourselves hosting intimate dinner parties, sharing not just meals but the stories behind them. Inspired by everyone’s enthusiasm, we created Date Night Dossier to extend our culinary adventures into your home.

What kind of cooking skills do we need to have?
The dinner menus are created with all cooking skills in mind. If you’re new to cooking, you’ll love our step-by-step recipe instructions and videos. If your culinary skills are more advanced, you’ll appreciate every menu’s unique yet familiar combinations.
When and how will we receive our monthly Date Night Dossier?
Upon joining, you will be emailed your first dossier immediately. All future dossiers will be delivered to your inbox on the 1st day of every month for as long as you have a current subscription.
How soon should we plan our date night after our Dossier lands in our inbox?
We recommend you give yourselves at least one week between receiving your dossier and your actual date night. This way, you will have plenty of time to shop for (or InstaCart) the ingredients you’ll need to make your at-home date night magicalistical (yes, we made up that word).
Are the ingredients pre-packaged?
Part of the fun of “Date Night Dossier” is that we provide you and your partner with a shopping list with the intention that the two of you will go shopping for the ingredients together. Now, before one or both of you roll your eyes at that idea, we pinky promise to gamify your shopping experience.
Do we have to spend all day in the kitchen cooking?
Not at all. Each recipe on the monthly menu is created with busy couples in mind. Besides, these recipes are curated to involve you and your partner in cooking together. There might be some dishes on the menu that we suggest you cook the day before your date night because they taste better on the second day.
Can you get a customized menu based on dietary restrictions?
Yes and no. Our menus are a carnivore’s dream (an ode to Ed’s love affair with meat). However, since Erica has a few dietary restrictions, we’ve already curated the menu with the common restrictions in mind and will suggest ingredient swaps when applicable. Another note: Our suggested monthly cocktail will have a “mocktail” alternate.
